Icelandic supporters the best

The magazine FourFourTwo has just named the supporters of the Icelandic National Team Supporters of the Year.  Pundits didn’t give Iceland any hope of doing something in the EURO2016 but the team however showed them wrong.  The supporters were outstanding during the EURO2016 and it is estimated that about 30.000 people travelled from Iceland to France for the games or just about ten percent of the Icelandic population.  You can…

Iceland up six places – Now number 21

The Coca Cola FIFA ranking list was published this week and the Icelandic Mens national team is now in 21st place and up six places from last list. Iceland has never been higher on this list but good win over Finland and Turkey in Iceland this month has probably helped.  Iceland is as before the best National team in Scandinavia but next is Sweden in 37th place and Denmark number 50….

Iceland – Turkey 2-0

The Icelandic National team met Turkey in the third round in the qualifying group stages for the World Cup in Russia 2018.  Last Thursday Iceland won a dramatic win over Finland 3-2 and tonight Turkey came to play in Laugardalsvöllur in Iceland. The Icelandic Women National Team secured their spot in the EURO2017 in Netherland.  In the qualifying group they have played seven games with winning all games and have scored 33 goals with 0 conceded.  They played Slovenia last night and scored four goals.  Dagný Brynjarsdóttir with 2 goals and Hallbera Guðný Gísladóttir and Gunnhildur Yrsa Jónsdóttir scored one goal each.
