Iceland up six places – Now number 21

The Coca Cola FIFA ranking list was published this week and the Icelandic Mens national team is now in 21st place and up six places from last list. Iceland has never been higher on this list but good win over Finland and Turkey in Iceland this month has probably helped.  Iceland is as before the best National team in Scandinavia but next is Sweden in 37th place and Denmark number 50….

Iceland – Turkey 2-0

The Icelandic National team met Turkey in the third round in the qualifying group stages for the World Cup in Russia 2018.  Last Thursday Iceland won a dramatic win over Finland 3-2 and tonight Turkey came to play in Laugardalsvöllur in Iceland. The Icelandic Women National Team secured their spot in the EURO2017 in Netherland.  In the qualifying group they have played seven games with winning all games and have scored 33 goals with 0 conceded.  They played Slovenia last night and scored four goals.  Dagný Brynjarsdóttir with 2 goals and Hallbera Guðný Gísladóttir and Gunnhildur Yrsa Jónsdóttir scored one goal each. Bjarni Johannsson quits as IBV coach

IBV and Bjarni Johannsson, coach of IBV issued a statement yesterday that Bjarni is terminating his contract with IBV.  IBV is currently in 10th place in the league only one place from the relegation zone.  IBV is playing Vikingur R at away tomorrow and can with a win strengthen their place in staying in the Premier league. Who will be the next assistant coach of the Icelandic National Team?

KSI, The Icelandic Football Association is scheduled to have a press meeting on Friday.  The heading of this meeting is about the Mens National Team and rumours are that a new assistant coach to Heimir Hallgrimsson will be announced.  Many names have been mentioned with this position like Eidur Guðjohnsen, Helgi Kolviðsson and Runar Kristinsson. Stjarnan with a comfortable win over Vikingur R.

Stjarnan went up to second place after 3-0 win over Vikingur R tonight.  Hilmar Árni Baldvinsson and Guðjón Baldvinsson scored in the first half for Stjarnan and the score 2-0 in halftime.  Stjarnan secured the win on the 84th minute with a goal from Marko Perkovic.  The final score 3-0 and this is the fourth consecutive win for Stjarnan and are just two points behind the FH.   Facebook Comments
